，1998年获得博士学位，继而前往美国劳伦斯伯克利国家实验室从事博士后研究，1年半以后正式在该实验室工作，并获永久职位。劳伦斯伯克利国家重点实验室是美国能源部下属的10余所国家实验室之一，该实验室拥有员工约4000名，先后有9位诺贝尔奖获得者。2004年，杨青入选中科院“百人计画”，回到中科院自动化所工作，现为模式识别国家重点实验室研究员。
