歌曲前奏在强力失真吉他伴奏下由贝斯手Cliff Burton用加了失真音色和哇音效果的贝司弹出旋律，然后进入吉他Riff段。这段前奏旋律是Cliff Burton在加入METALLICA之前写的。这首歌的吉他和贝司的音高比比标準音高要调的高一点，同一专辑中其他歌曲则使用了标準音高。一个解释是这样调过音的琴声能跟歌曲开场的钟声在同一和声里。
